No other piece of clothing is subject to as many requirements as our bra: it must be as comfortable as possible, flattering on our bust, and preferably, needs to look stunning. It affects our confidence and appearance more than any other item of clothing.

With so many types of bra available, from underwire bras, push-up bras and multiway bras, all the way through to wireless bras and cup bras, it’s not always easy to choose the right bra.

But not to worry: you don’t need to commit or limit yourself to one bra, because different bras meet different requirements. The right bra for you can vary depending on the occasion, your outfit or your mood. We help break down the options so you can make the perfect choice for you.

Underwire bras are a woman’s best friend because they are suitable for almost every size. On an underwire bra, the bust is fully enclosed by an underwire, which gently supports the bust and creates a rounded, feminine shape. Women with a larger bust should choose a bra with wide straps and a supportive underbust band.

The push-up bra is a real magician and provides that added wow factor. With reinforced lower cups as well as a perfect fit, a push-up bra creates a seductive, perfectly rounded shape and magically makes your bust look up to a whole size bigger.

Our tip: Push-up bras are particularly suitable for women with a small to medium-sized bust.

Cup bras are the all-rounder among bras and are one of the most popular bra types.

The cup gives the breast a natural, rounded shape and prevents the nipples from showing through the bra. These days, cup bras come in many different styles: in discreet nude or white tones, they make an ideal T-shirt bra. Cup bras without underwires are also known as soft bras.

Unlike an underwire bra, wireless bras have no underwire at all. This makes wireless bras – also known as bustiers or bralettes – extremely comfortable and supportive of the natural shape of the bust.

Whether it’s seductive lingerie with lace or little details, or a plain and simple sports bra: wireless bras provide maximum comfort.

This bra combines at least three bras in one. The bandeau bra, halterneck bra and racerback bra are the three most popular ways to wear a multiway bra. Thanks to hooks and eyelets in different positions, there are lots of different ways to wear it, offering maximum flexibility.

As the name suggests, a half-cup bra is a bra with only half a cup. This means the cups of the bra cover approximately half of your bust to conjure a stunning cleavage.

Our expert tip: Try wearing a half-cup bra that is one cup size bigger than your full-cup size. That way, the cups provide a bit more coverage and ensure a secure fit without slipping or spilling out of the bra. A half-cup bra is especially suitable for women with a small to medium-sized bust.

Unlike a half-cup bra, the full-cup bra has, as the name suggests, a “full cup”. It provides maximum security and comfort, as it fully encloses the bust.

Our tip: This model is especially suitable for women with a larger bust size.

We have compiled a few care tips to help you enjoy wearing your bra for a long time to come.

• First, always read the care label. For some bras, hand-washing is the only way to ensure that the bra is not damaged in the wash. Especially for delicate lingerie with lace, we recommend washing the bra in lukewarm water with a gentle detergent.
• If the bra is machine-washable, always use a mesh laundry bag and fasten the hook fasteners of the bra. This prevents the bra from snagging on other garments.
• Never place the cups inside each other! Particularly on normal cup bras with a bi-stretch cup, this leads to distortion or warping of the cups. Instead, place the bra flat in the mesh bag.
• You should also use a gentle detergent in the machine.
• As a rule, bras should be washed at 30°C on a low-speed spin cycle. We recommend selecting the delicates programme on your machine.
• Care should be taken when drying too: we recommend not placing bras in the tumble dryer. Instead, air dry your bras on a drying rack. Place the bra flat on the rack with the hooks fastened and the cups facing up, or hang it on a clothes hanger. We recommend not hanging your bras by one end or hanging it by the straps with clothes pegs. This would affect the fit of the bra and cause it to lose its shape.
• There is no hard and fast rule for how often you should wash your bra. We do not recommend washing it after every wear unless you sweat heavily or the weather is extremely warm. As a rule of thumb, we recommend washing it after every 3–4 wears.
